Artist’s Note 🌿
Like an alien landscape
Known and yet
Unknown
Barrenness stretches out before me.
Surefooted, I hike in
Not knowing
The charred
The broken
The wreck
Of a land raided and set alight.

Death and Life coexisting
Under hazy, stagnant air,
And isn’t it so
In our own lives/deaths—
Coexisting with a handshake,
The goodbye yet lingering into the new
The birth carrying the twinge of sorrow still?
Our steps uncertain?
Soot stains the toe of my shoe,
And there’s a softness
Underfoot;
I walk gently
Holding space among this
Burnt offering,
As my Father would do
For me.
